UT Dallas Students Take Over Dallas Skyline with Digital Art

A stunning display of digital artwork from University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) Projection Mapping Lab students will grace the skyline of downtown Dallas, thanks to the iconic LED display at the Omni Dallas Hotel.

Sixteen projects by these talented students will be showcased in the “Cosmic Trailblazing: Comet Artistry takes over Dallas Skyline” program, providing them with an unparalleled opportunity to witness the impact of their skills and art on the community, according to Dallas Metro News.

The display is set to begin on April 16 at 8:30 p.m. and will continue until the end of the month. The sixteen projects featured were curated from Andrew F. Scott’s UT Dallas School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology associate professor’s class, which utilizes computer and technology to create digital art. This program not only allows students to exhibit their work, but it also provides them with a chance to see the possibilities of the skills they learn in class.

For many students, like UT Dallas senior Michael Bentley, this program is a dream come true. Bentley never thought that his artwork would be showcased beyond the school borders and be a part of the Dallas community. With this opportunity, Bentley and his peers can reach for the stars, collaborate, and expand their network. It is a cool and weird feeling to see their work on the public domain, setting the stage for the future when they will compete and contribute to a global market.

UT Dallas senior Rina Harrison is excited about the event, which will allow some of the craziest things they can do with audio-visual setups to be on display. Her interest in AV setups has even led her to run a video game event in Carrollton. The artwork created by these talented students will speak to the community and bring joy to many.

This opportunity to showcase student art at the Omni Dallas Hotel is a significant platform for these young artists to display their growing talent, inspire others, and encourage them to reach for greater heights. Through this program, UT Dallas students have the experience to reflect on real-world practices of artistry and the endless possibilities technology brings to the art world. The “Cosmic Trailblazing: Comet Artistry takes over Dallas Skyline” exhibition will demonstrate the significant impact of technological advances on the art world and provide a glimpse into the increasingly varied and exciting opportunities to come.
