Would you pay $825K to live in this DIY dream house in Sacramento?
This house appears normal from the outside, but its brick facade conceals a wonderland of custom creation.
Indeed, this California home listing has gone viral online for being much more than meets the eye.
The former abode of a “highly respected psychiatrist in Sacramento” has hit the market for $825,000 following the late owner’s peaceful passing at the property earlier this year, agent Janet Carlson of Lyon Real Estate told The Post.
Carlson, who lives across the street from the Coleman Way four-bedroom, was “privileged to know him for the last 20 years,” and is now selling her neighbor’s 2,320-square-foot single-family spread for $825,000.
The late owner is responsible for all the artwork coating the interior — where nearly all the ceilings, floors and walls are painted, ornamented with mosaics and otherwise affixed with decorative whimsy.
He also delighted in gardening, and the driveway and backyard now boast hundreds of potted plants.
“He was a very creative and brilliant man who lived alone and did his artwork in his off hours,” Carlson said. He was enormously inspired by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi and also loved musical theater, especially its costuming and set design.
Look closely and his fascination with prime numbers, astrological signs and the four elements are also clear in the work, which he created over his 25 years living in the house. A carpenter assisted him with fabrications based on his imagination, which led to the property being covered in more than 5,000 tubes of caulking compound over the years.
“It felt a lot like being in the elvish kingdom on a set in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy,” said Carlson of the end result.
In addition to being a DIY wonderland, the address also features a bay-windowed living room with leaded glass, a fireplace and built-in seating — as well as a two-story garage and a pool.
The basement has “a hidden storage room” which the listing suggests could make for great wine storage, and the property is walking distance from Sacramento’s light rail and City College.
