Winning ticket sold for $754.6 million Powerball jackpot

The low odds in the game are for big prizes that attract more players.

WASHINGTON — The lucky winner in Washington State will take home the ninth largest jackpot in U.S. history, a Powerball prize worth more than $750 million. There were also five winners in Michigan and New York, and a $2 million winner in Texas.

The Powerball jackpot rose to $747 million ahead of the Monday night draw, but final ticket sales pushed it up to $754.6 million.

This is the first Powerball jackpot winner since November 19, 2022. The jackpot grew with each of the game’s three weekly draws.

The eye-popping prize follows a $1.35 billion Mega Millions prize won by someone in Maine in January and a record-breaking $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won by a California player last November.

The $754.6 million jackpot is for the winner who chooses an annuity that pays out over 29 years. Higher interest rates allowed these annuity payments to be higher than earlier jackpots, when the rates were lower.

Most winners prefer cash, which is valued at $407.2 million for Monday night’s draw.

The next draw will reset the jackpot to $20 million.
