What drivers saw in a fatal 51-car crash on an Ohio highway
ERIE COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) — A new video shows what drivers saw as they crashed into a cluster of 51 vehicles on an Ohio freeway.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol posted a video to the FOX 8 I-Team as the investigation into the fatal accident is complete.
The plane crash killed four people and one unborn child. Soldiers tell us that 73 more people have reported injuries from a major accident over the Christmas weekend.
Erie County Attorney Kevin Baxter said his office had just completed reviewing the patrol’s report.
“We didn’t think it would be in the interests of justice to prosecute anyone involved,” Baxter said Tuesday. “Here, winter storm conditions on the day of the Ohio freeway crash on Dec. 23, 2022 were a ‘natural disaster’ or nature that was so unusual and overwhelming that it was likely a major contributing factor to the piling up. Due to strong winds and heavy and blizzard snow, a white haze arose with poor visibility. The deceleration due to deteriorating visibility and road conditions was likely severe enough to cause a collision on its own, regardless of the potential negligence of individual drivers.”
The video that appeared was filmed from the DVRs of the drivers involved in the accident. This shows that the pileup is just getting started. Some members climbed out of the rubble before things got worse.
“There’s a principle in the law called ‘Act of God or Act of God’,” Baxter said. “And under these circumstances, as we found in this particular case, it is really difficult to hold anyone criminally or even civilly liable in such situations.”
