Wake County Launches Petition to Minors Against Teen Accused of Endangering Zebulon Middle

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday filed a juvenile petition against a teenager believed to be responsible for the threats that sent Zebulon High School students home early after they were locked out last week.

On Friday, East Millbrook High School in Raleigh and Zebulon Middle were locked down by Code Red due to what each school initially described as a “security issue.”

By noon, both schools lifted the quarantine, but Zebulon teachers decided to send students home early, at 12:15.

On Wednesday, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office announced that they had identified a minor who “threatened massive violence” at Zebulon High School.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office filed a juvenile petition, which is the equivalent of arresting juvenile delinquents. The suspect is now brought before the Wake County Juvenile Court Counsel’s office.

Because the suspect is a minor, the identity of the suspect has not been released.

The threat at Zebulon Middle came about as other schools faced threats of their own. On Friday, Wake County public school officials sent out a message to families asking for community help to stop these threats.

“We are calling on our community to work with us to address this challenge,” Superintendent Cathy Moore and School Board Chair Lindsey Mahaffey said in a joint message to families on Friday. “We will be looking at ways to work with local law enforcement to develop better security measures and with state legislators to see how we can strengthen laws against perpetrators of these criminal acts.”
