Video shows United passenger threatening to ‘kill every person on this plane’

Mobile phone video shows a United Airlines flight passenger threatening to “kill everyone on this plane” and then allegedly attacking a flight attendant with a broken metal spoon.

The footage shows Francisco Severo Torres, 33, screaming from his seat on a flight from Los Angeles to Boston. He then gets up, walks towards the crew members, and appears to lunge at the stewardess. The footage shows several passengers rushing towards him to intervene.

Lisa Olsen, who filmed the video, told NBC Boston that Torres appeared to be “visibly upset” and threatened that there would be “a bloodbath”.

She praised fellow passengers for stepping in and holding Torres down with zip ties and straps until the plane landed.

“A lot of the men on that plane just got up and went right behind him,” she said.

The incident began when Torres tried to open an emergency exit door during a weekend flight, the US Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts said. Crew members said they were alerted about 45 minutes into the flight that the “right side door” had been disabled. The flight attendant examined the door and noticed that the handle had been turned to the open position.

The duty officer secured the handle and notified the other crew members. Federal officials said the film crew noted that Torres was at the door and “confronted Torres about breaking the door, to which he allegedly responded by asking if there were cameras showing he did it.”

Prosecutors said Torres later went to the same door that was being guarded by two flight attendants and allegedly pushed one of them “with a stabbing motion with a broken metal spoon.”

The stewardess received three blows to the neck.

Torres allegedly said he “believed the flight attendant was trying to kill him, so he tried to kill the flight attendant first,” according to the criminal complaint.

He was charged with “Interference” and “Attempt to interfere with flight crew members and flight attendants using a dangerous weapon.”

The story goes on

It’s unclear if Torres, of Leominster, Massachusetts, has a lawyer.

Torres is due to appear in federal court on Thursday. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if found guilty.

United Airlines said in a statement that it has “absolutely zero tolerance for any form of violence on our flights” and has banned Torres from flying pending an investigation.
