Two taken to hospital after crash involving Abilene PD vehicle

An APD officer and the driver of one of the three vehicles involved in the crash were taken to the hospital for treatment.

ABILENE, Texas — Two people were taken to an Abilene hospital for treatment after a three-vehicle crash near Old Anson Road and West Overland Trail Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Abilene Police Department, the crash happened at approximately noon Wednesday.

According to APD Lt. Gerald Moran, an 18-wheeler was southbound on Old Anson, headed towards Overland. A pickup truck stopped at the stop sign, but “failed to yield the right-of-way because he went across.” The pickup hit the 18-wheeler.

“At the same time, our PD car was northbound on the inside lane, not sure where his damage came from, but he’s got front end damage, probably from the truck,” Moran said.

The police Tahoe was occupied by two on-duty patrol officers. One of the officers, who was the passenger, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of one of the other vehicles was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Moran said the driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash at this time. APD said the driver of the pickup will be issued a summons. The crash remains under investigation.
