Two missing tamarins found in closet of abandoned house

January 31 (UPI) — A pair of emperor tamarins missing from the Dallas Zoo have been found in a closet in an abandoned home. Police say they are looking for a man who they think may have stolen the animals.

tamarins were discovered Tuesday night after investigators received a tip that the monkeys may be in an empty house about 15 miles from Lancaster, Texas, according to the Dallas Police Department.

“Dallas Police, with the help of the Lancaster Police Department, located two missing Dallas Zoo tamarins in an abandoned home in Lancaster,” the Dallas Police Department tweeted, showing a photo of one of the monkeys inside the toilet. The monkeys were returned to the zoo.

“On Monday morning (January 30), the Dallas Zoo alerted the Dallas Police Department after the animal care team found two money missing from our emperor tamarin. It was clear that the habitat had been intentionally compromised.” read post on the Dallas Zoo Facebook page.

“Imperial tamarin monkeys are likely to stay close to home,” the post continued. “Based on the Dallas Police Department’s initial assessment, they have reason to believe the tamarins have been abducted.”

On Tuesday, the Dallas Police Department released a photo of a man they believe may have stolen the monkeys.

“Dallas Police are appealing to the public for help in identifying the man in the photo. Detectives want to talk to a man about two tamarin monkeys missing from the Dallas Zoo.” Department tweeted.

Monday’s disappearance of the monkeys follows a string of suspicious incidents, including the temporary disappearance of a clouded leopard and the death of a vulture with a snout.

Earlier this month, a clouded leopard named Nova went missing from his habitat but was found unharmed hours later. Police later said that the fence around Nova’s enclosure was “deliberately cut away”.

The zoo stepped up security but lost the animal less than two weeks later when a vulture with a face named Pin died unexpectedly. “The circumstances of the death are unusual and the death does not appear to have come from natural causes. Given the recent incidents at the zoo, we have alerted the Dallas Police Department,” the zoo said in a statement. Facebook statement.

In a Tuesday night post, the Dallas Zoo shared the news that the monkeys had been safely retrieved.

“We are incredibly excited to announce that our two emperor tamarins have been found. DPD spotted the animals early this morning and called our team to ensure safety and get the tarmarines back to the zoo.” – Dallas Zoo tweeted. “They will be evaluated by our veterinarians tonight.”
