Trump’s legal team asks for a six-month delay in New York civil lawsuit

March 3 (UPI) — A group of lawyers representing former President Donald Trump has formally requested a six-month delay in a civil case filed against him by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

James filed a civil lawsuit against Trump in Septemberalleging that the Trump organization had fraudulently inflated the value of certain assets.

The lawsuit alleges that Trump and the senior leadership of the Trump Organization, along with children Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump, “falsely inflated” Trump’s net worth by billions of dollars in order to obtain bank loans on better terms.

James seeks to permanently ban the former president from serving as an officer or director in New York corporations and businesses. She is also seeking a $250 million fine.

Documents filed by Trump’s attorney Clifford S. Robert on Friday said the former president’s legal team needs more time to prepare an adequate defense.

“Defendants are unable to review the staggering volume of materials, serve subpoenas, review subpoena materials, prepare and conduct evidence – all within three and a half months from the date the plaintiff filed his investigative file – and then prepare and submit expert opinions in a month,” says Robert. registration.

“Forcing defendants to continue on their current schedule would be detrimental to their ability to make defenses that cannot be cured, in the absence of an extension of the time for disclosure and an increase in the number of statements they are allowed to take,” the text continues. .

“Anything that does not conform to this is contrary to fundamental justice, violates established principles of due process, and ridicules the entrenched adversarial system of justice that serves as the foundation of the legal system of the United States,” the document says.

In January, a judge from New York request denied from Trump’s legal team to have the case dismissed.
