Trump Legal Team Turns Over Additional Classified Files to Federal Attorney’s Office: Reports

In recent months, former President Trump’s legal team has handed over additional classified material to federal prosecutors, several media outlets reported Friday.

Additional material, including an empty folder with classified notes, was discovered by Trump’s lawyers at his Mar-a-Lago residence and subsequently turned over to the Department of Justice (DOJ). Associated Press.

The current Trump aide’s laptop was also reportedly turned over to federal prosecutors after it was discovered that classified material had been electronically copied to the laptop. ABC news. ABC News was the first to report on the new classified material.

These discoveries are the latest in a year-long attempt by the Justice Department to recover classified files and other records of the former president.

The Justice Department first got involved when more than 100 classified documents were found among the boxes of records that the National Archives and Records Administration recovered from Mar-a-Lago last January.

Last June, Trump’s lawyers handed over several more classified documents in response to a subpoena from the Justice Department.

However, amid fears that classified material remained in Mar-a-Lago, in August the FBI obtained a search warrant for the former president’s home in Florida and found about 100 additional classified documents.

Trump’s handling of classified material remains the subject of an investigation by Special Counsel Jack Smith, who was appointed in November to oversee Justice Department investigations into the former president. Smith is also leading the department’s investigation into Trump’s role in the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack.

Reports also surfaced Thursday that former Vice President Mike Pence and former National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien received subpoenas from Smith.

Secret documents have also been found in the private homes of Presidents Biden and Pence, and these documents have been turned over to the Justice Department and are being investigated.
