The United States shot down another air object – this time over Lake Huron

On Sunday, the military shot down another aerial object, this time over Lake Huron, marking the third straight day the US has shot down an unidentified aircraft in North American airspace, Michigan state lawmakers said Sunday.

Rep. Jack Bergman (R-Michigan) said he was in touch with the Department of Defense throughout the day and confirmed in a tweet that the military had “decommissioned” another aerial facility.

“Today I contacted the Department of Defense regarding operations in the Great Lakes region. The US military decommissioned another “object” over Lake Huron. I highly appreciate the decisive actions of our fighter pilots. The American people deserve far more answers than we have,” Bergman tweeted.

Bergman told Fox News Sunday afternoon that he was told the object was octagonal in shape and hovered at about 20,000 feet.

Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Michigan) also said he spoke to the Department of Defense and tweeted that the Air Force had shot down an aerial object.

“The Air Force shot down an unidentified object over Lake Huron. Thanks to the US military for their prompt action. I will continue to look for information about the incident in the coming days.” kildi Tflooded.

Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Michigan) tweeted that the object was “shot down” by US Air Force and National Guard pilots.

“As long as these things continue to cross the US and Canada, I will continue to ask Congress for a full briefing based on our exploitation of the wreckage,” she said.

Earlier Sunday, the Federal Aviation Administration briefly closed some airspace over Lake Michigan “to support Department of Defense operations,” The Hill said in a statement. Since then, airspace has been reopened.

At a press briefing, North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Commander General Glen VanHerke said he first spotted the object on Saturday night in Canadian airspace before it entered US airspace that night.

He said NORAD had scrambled F-16 fighter jets and a tanker to investigate the facility, but its identification was initially “unsuccessful.” The command then discovered that the object was again moving towards Wisconsin on Sunday, after which they drew up a “plan of action.”

“We wanted to find the best position to intercept if we needed to attack with the least collateral damage, and that was in eastern Wisconsin, right in front of Lake Michigan,” he said.

He said the small size of the objects makes them difficult to track.

He confirmed that the military shot down the object over Lake Huron, where the remains of the object could be in Canadian waters. He said search missions would be carried out soon to determine what the object was.

As of Sunday, he said he was currently unaware of any other objects on the radar.

Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland and Hemispheric Affairs Melissa Dalton said the object did not pose a threat to people on the ground, but did pose a threat to “civil aviation”, which is why it was shot down.

The third shutdown in three days comes after President Biden ordered the downing of a supposedly Chinese reconnaissance balloon that flew across much of the US just over a week ago.

On Friday, the US shot down a “high-rise object” over Alaska, and then on Saturday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ordered The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) shot down an unidentified object over the Yukon Territory.
