The Thurston County man arrested in the fatal collision moved the victim’s body and left, deputies said.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man suspected of hitting and killing a pedestrian with his car Friday on a road south of Tumwater, the department said. The deputies said that the driver transported the body of the victim and did not ask for help.

Deputies were sent to the scene of the clash around 9:30 p.m. in the 10900 block of Case Road Southwest, about three miles south of Tumwater city limits. According to a press release published on Saturday, deputies found a dead man in his 60s at the scene. He has not been publicly identified.

The driver suspected of hitting him was arrested on charges of first-degree manslaughter and evidence falsification, according to a press release. The deputies said the suspect, a man in Thurston County in his 60s, has yet to be formally charged. The investigation into the incident continues.

The initial investigation determined that the driver had hit the man with his car and then moved the victim from where it happened to a nearby apartment building.

The deputies said that the driver knew the man he hit, but fled the scene and called other acquaintances who were on the way to the scene of the accident. Later, the driver returned, but the deputies said that this was after the arrival of law enforcement.
