The man who went missing on Christmas Eve was dismembered and buried in concrete, according to a North Carolina sheriff.

A North Carolina man who went missing on Christmas Eve was found dismembered and sealed in a barrel of hardened concrete, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

The discovery was made Jan. 26, when police officers spent their second day searching property around a home outside of Sanford, about 40 miles southwest of Raleigh, the sheriff’s office said.

“Detectives found a 55-gallon barrel in a heavily wooded area that contained concrete and suspected human remains,” the sheriff’s office said.

“The barrel was seized and sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s office for further examination. The forensic examination removed the concrete and found a dismembered body inside the barrel.”

The body has been identified as 40-year-old Michael Bradley Cox of Lee County, who has been missing since Jan. 5 after he was last seen or heard from on Dec. 24, officials said.

The suspect, 42-year-old Jackie Lamar Bright, was charged with murder, officials said. The detectives were looking for bright life at home.

Investigators did not name a motive and did not say whether the two men knew each other before the murder.

Bright’s home was also raided in the first week of January, officials said, resulting in his arrest on charges of drug possession.

“Bright has a very extensive criminal history and was released from prison in May 2022,” the sheriff’s office said.

“He was currently on parole when the Lee County Sheriff’s Office took Bright into custody on Jan. 6 on unrelated charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and violating drug regulations… Bright was released from prison and was re-arrested on Jan. 11… y for parole violation and additional controlled substance violations.”

The stolen car was found in an annex on his property along with 270 grams of marijuana, 40 doses of Suboxone and cocaine, officials said.

The body of a woman who went missing four years ago has been found under a floor in rural North Carolina, police said.

A triple homicide was committed at a North Carolina home after a shootout with a suspect, police said.

One deputy was killed and two wounded in a shooting at a home in North Carolina, officials said.
