Westside Gunn hang up his microphone soon. On Friday, December 30, “327” spitter announced that he was quitting rap after failing to step back from the rap game several times.

“23 is my last year doing this shit,” the 40-year-old began his announcement on Twitter. “I don’t have anything else 2prove, I put my team on, I put on my city, I’ve worked with everyone I’ve ever wanted to work with, plus MF still don’t even understand 1-10, FLYGOD, Awesome GOD, or Pray for Paris (remember Virgil did the cover) in [goat emoji] [shrug emoji].”

Westside admitted that he hinted at his departure several times, but continued to release new music. However, this time he doesn’t play as he said “I know I say all the time I’m retired so people can be like he always says it seriously I’ve been through so much with this shit behind closed doors. you would never know, it brought more pain than joy, I’m just such a G that I make it very easy, but I fight these devils every day.

The Buffalo-born artist has assured his online fans that he will still be making music behind the scenes despite his retirement. “I’ll still be curating albums,” he noted. “And by the way I was secretly working on the @EsteeNack project, I’m calling Knucksaw Jim Duggan and this shit is fucking CRAAAAAAAA but I still love the ART of executive production but that will only be if my heart you can’t ask me I have to ask you.”

Westside then mentioned some projects he wants to release before he finally retires. “Yes, I know people want GUNNLIB at 23,” he said. “Yes I really want to make Awesome GOD a trilogy, yes WWCD 2 is at the top of my list, there’s no way I’m leaving it without a project with my family, YES StoveGOD will be released, YES MICHELLE records will drop.”
