James Cromwell was named PETA Person of the Year 2022. The 82-year-old actor whose films feature “baby“, “Green Mile“, and “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdomwas praised by the animal rights organization after speaking out against the export of live pigs from Ireland and pressuring Starbucks to end the mark-up on vegan milk in the US.
“James Cromwell’s compassion for all animals knows no bounds. He was named PETA Person of the Year for playing a vital role in our relentless campaign to protect animals that are being mistreated because they are caged, exploited and killed.” said Mimi Behechi, PETA Vice President for the UK, Europe and Australia.

PETA US also announced that it is naming its Los Angeles event space the James Cromwell Empathy Center.
James became a vegan after starring in the 1995 comedy-drama film The Kid, and has since been outspoken about the issue of animal rights. Earlier this year, he actually taped his hand to the counter of a Starbucks cafe in New York City to protest the company’s extra charge for vegan milk. After that, the police arrived at the scene and closed the store.
James, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Baby, explained: “My friends at PETA and I are calling on Starbucks to stop penalizing kind and environmentally conscious customers for choosing plant-based milks. We are all interested in this. in a matter of life and death related to climate catastrophe, and Starbucks should do its part by ending their vegan promotion.”
