Texas woman missing for over a week found dead

Officials said Thursday that a Texas woman who went missing this month and whose empty car was later found in a remote area was found dead.

A body found buried in a field in Grande Prairie on Wednesday was confirmed to be that of a missing woman, Kayla Kelly, 33, of McKinney, the Collin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Ocastor Ferguson, 32, was arrested on Saturday on charges of kidnapping.

Now that Kelly’s body has been found, the sheriff’s office said it is working with the district attorney on additional charges, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

According to online records, Ferguson is being held in lieu of $1.5 million bail on a kidnap and arson warrant. According to the sheriff’s office, the arson charge is linked to Kelly’s car.

The online records did not list Ferguson’s lawyer.

Kelly’s friends reported her missing on January 11 after no word from her for several days, the sheriff’s office said.

A written arrest warrant statement obtained by NBC Dallas-Fort Worth says friends said Kelly was dating someone she knew as Kevin Brown but found out his real name was Ferguson and he was married. according to the station.

The sheriff’s office stated that Ferguson is also known as Kevin Brown, and online prison records indicate that Ferguson is married.

The sheriff’s office said the case is an ongoing murder investigation.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office positively identified remains found in Grande Prairie on Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office. The cause and manner of death were not disclosed.
