Texan, 3 wives accused of kidnapping woman after she refused to be fourth wife, police say

A Grande Prairie man who authorities returned to prison last week for breaking bail is charged with kidnapping and assaulting a woman in 2021 in Arlington after he tried to force her to become his fourth ‘wife’, Arlington police said Tuesday .

According to police, three other women, whom he named as his wives, are accused of the alleged crime.

Tarrant County Jail records identified the Grande Prairie man as Daniel Dean Abbas, 34, who was arrested Thursday and charged with breach of bail. He remained in jail on Tuesday with a $25,000 bond.

He was first taken into custody in 2021.

Arlington Police responded to a call to a nail salon on June 12, 2021 in the 1800 block of North Collins Street, where a woman protested, saying that the people she arrived with held her against her will and physically abused her.

The police did not give any details about how the woman and Abbas met.

Later, when she spoke to investigators, the victim also reported that she had been sexually assaulted by Daniel Abbas, police said.

During the investigation, detectives said they learned that Abbas believed in polygamy and he was trying to coerce a woman into becoming his new wife with the help of his three existing wives.

Police said that when the victim refused his advances, he and three other women were accused of assaulting her.

The criminal statement says the suspects are accused of using a sledgehammer as a weapon to intimidate a kidnapped woman.

Arlington police did not provide any other details, but noted that detectives were able to recover physical and digital evidence supporting the victim’s claims.

After a thorough investigation, detectives obtained arrest warrants for all four suspects on the following charges;

Daniel Abbas: Aggravated sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping/abuse.

Penuel Abbas, 30, of Arlington: aggravated kidnapping with bodily harm/sexual assault

The story goes on

Sevi Bernard, 31, from Bedford: aggravated kidnapping with bodily injury/sexual assault.

Brenda Rivera, 21, from Grande Prairie: aggravated kidnapping with bodily harm/sexual assault.

All four were arrested and charged in 2021.

Criminal court records indicate that Daniel Abbas partially violated bail by testing positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

As a condition of bail, Abbas also had to not contact the victim, but he texted her on December 30, 2022 and called her on January 9, according to court records.

There are trials for the suspects.
