January 29 (UPI) — A synagogue remained undamaged after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a temple in New Jersey Sunday morning, police said.

The Bloomfield Police Department said a man wearing a ski mask threw an explosive device at the front door of the Ner Tamid temple around 3:19 a.m. before fleeing the scene. in the news release.

Police department detectives, along with agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, were notified of the incident.

Investigators believe the suspect is a white male and have released surveillance photos of him.

Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said in a statement that the incident is being investigated as a case of bias and that his office is working with law enforcement to find the arson suspect.

Platkin added that his office is aware of a second incident Saturday in Monmouth County where church members were attacked.

According to Platkin, this incident is also being investigated as a case of bias.

“We recognize the fact that these attacks occurred at a time when violence in Israel continues to flare up and while our own people are reckoning with the violence at home,” Platkin said.

“I want to reassure all New Jersey residents, especially our friends and neighbors from the black community and the Jewish faith, that law enforcement continues to take appropriate steps to increase our presence in our sensitive areas so that everyone in our state can worship, love and live without fear of violence or threats.”

This was stated by Bloomfield Mayor Michael Venice. in a statement that the attack on the synagogue “didn’t work” and stated that hatred and anti-Semitism were “unacceptable”.

The news also comes after a 13-year-old Palestinian boy was wounded by armed civilians and taken into custody after he allegedly opened fire on civilians in East Jerusalem’s Silwan neighborhood on Saturday.
