Suspect nabbed in horrific Mother’s Day stolen dump truck hit-and-run crash that killed Queens mom

A suspect has been nabbed in a horrific Mother’s Day hit-and-run crash that killed a beloved Queens mom, police sources said Thursday.

The suspect, who cops say was behind the wheel of a stolen dump truck when he set off a chain of events that killed victim Florence Ngwu, was picked up early Thursday morning, sources said. Charges were pending.

Ngwu was celebrating Mother’s Day with her daughter on May 8 when the driver of a Ford F-550 dump truck hit her daughter’s car while trying to make a U-turn in the cul-de-sac outside the victim’s Queens home, cops said.

The victim and her daughter raced out to see what happened as the driver turned the dump truck around, recklessly hitting an SUV, which slammed it into another parked car, crushing Ngwu, 49, between the two vehicles.

Ngwu died at the hospital the next day.

“We’re all hanging in there,” Ngwu’s daughter, Princess, 24, told the Daily News a day after she watched in horror as her mother was pinned between the vehicles.

“We’re trying to be strong. She was a very strong woman, a very fierce woman. She trained us all really, really well. Her presence, there’s no replacing it. We’re just doing as best we can. She was a mom to everybody.”

Cops investigate wrecked truck after it was involved in an incident that left a woman dead in Queens on May 8, 2022.

Video obtained by the Daily News shows the driver of the dump truck reported stolen from Pawar Builders in Elmhurst slamming into Princess’ parked BMW eight times and dragging it as he tried to turn around at the end of the dead-end block. He was arguing with a woman seated beside him as he attempted to navigate the turn, witnesses said.

When the driver finally got the truck turned around, he plowed into a neighbor’s SUV, which careened into another parked car, pinning Ngwu.

The driver sped away. Police said early on that they had identified a person of interest in the killing, but no one was arrested until Thursday.
