Summit County Republicans to host Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in Akron next month
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis plans to visit local Republicans in Summit County next month.
The Summit County Republican Party has put together a waiting list for those interested in buying tickets to see one of two presumed Republican leaders in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
Ticket prices for the April 13 event have not been announced, and the University of Akron has confirmed that the party has rented the Quaker Station space for the day.
Polls Show Support for Republican Candidates and Possible Challengers
Although DeSantis has not announced that he is challenging former President Donald Trump in the election, he is considered a top potential challenger to Trump, who announced his bid for re-election in November.
Polls conducted by RealClear Politics from February 15 to March 13 show that Trump is ahead of possible opponents, with just under 44% of Republicans supporting his candidacy, with DeSantis in second place with 28%. Former South Carolina Governor and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley came in third with 6.3%. Hailey announced her candidacy last month.
Other potential pollster-nominated candidates and their average RCP poll results include former Vice President Mike Pence (6.3%), Texas Senator Ted Cruz (2%), former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (1.4%), Senator from Florida. Rick Scott (1.2%), South Dakota Gov. Christy Noem (1%), and New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (0.8%).
One candidate who didn’t register in the polls is Ohio native Vivek Ramaswamy, an entrepreneur, writer and conservative activist who was featured by the national media and announced his candidacy in February on Tucker Carlson Tonight.
