Skin care during spring break

The pleasure of vacation is to escape from the routine of work and study, but not necessarily from skin care.

COLUMBUS, Ohio. Your spring break can be filled with fun in the sun. Before you start breaking your head, make some adjustments to protect your skin.

The pleasure of vacation is to escape from the routine of work and study, but not necessarily from skin care.

Dr. Shari Hicks-Graham of the downtown dermatology center advises her patients to use TSA-compliant vials filled with products they normally use every day.

Vacation, according to Dr. Hicks-Graham, is not the time to try something new on your skin.

“In many cases, people come back from vacation and say I went away and tried this new product while I was gone,” she said. “Now I have this rash on my face or they have become more sensitive to the sun.”

Dr. Hicks-Graham offers three skincare recommendations: start with a gentle cleanser, avoid overuse of exfoliators, and use sunscreen all year round.

Dr. Hicks Graham said everyone should use sun protection

“Regardless of skin type, tone or color – how much melanin you have or not – everyone should use sunscreen,” she said.

There is also a plant-based dietary supplement that can be used with topical sunscreen called Heliocare. When used correctly, it is an effective way to protect the skin from photoaging.

“Actually, you should take it about an hour before sun exposure,” said Dr. Hicks-Graham. “Then you can take it again in the evening if you have been outside for a very long time.”
