Sayreville council member Eunice Dumfour shot to death in her car

SERVIL. City Councilwoman Younis Dumfour was found shot to death in her car near her home on Wednesday evening, authorities said.

Middlesex County Attorney Yolanda Ciccone and Sayreville Police Chief Daniel Plummaker said 911 received a call about the shootings around 7:22 p.m. in the Samuel Circle neighborhood.

When Sayreville police officers arrived at the scene, they found Dwumfur, 30, in her vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

No other information was forthcoming.

Dumfur, a Republican, won her seat on the Council in 2021. She was a liaison with public safety, which includes the police, fire department and ambulance service.

“As a community, we are shocked and saddened by the loss of Eunice Dumfour,” Mayor Victoria Kilpatrick said., Democrat, the statement said. “Eunice has been a dedicated member of our City Council and has a sincere desire to serve all of our residents. The fact that she was taken from us as a result of a heinous criminal act makes this incident all the more horrifying.”

The mayor said that Dumfur was a woman of deep faith and worked hard to integrate her strong Christian beliefs into her daily life as a person and community leader.

“We are confident that our police department, in cooperation with the Middlesex County Attorney’s Office, will quickly and successfully complete this fast-paced investigation, and look forward to the identification, arrest and successful prosecution of the culprit,” Kilpatrick said.

“We remember Eunice for how she lived, not how she died,” said Sayreville GOP Chair Karen Bailey Bebert. “She was the epitome of Sayreville, living the American Dream, overcoming adversity with courage and a smile. And always gave time and love to others.
