Phil McGraw to complete Dr. Phil after 21 years of daytime TV show

On Tuesday, Phil McGraw announced that he would be wrapping up the 21-year-old daytime television series Dr. Phil in the spring.

According to CBS Media Ventures, a content creator affiliated with the CBS network under the Paramount Global conglomerate, the talk show will stop airing after the end of the current season.

McGraw, 72, plans to announce a “first class partnership” starting in 2024, CBS Media Ventures said in a statement.

“This has been an incredible chapter in my life and career,” McGraw said in a statement, “but as I move out of daytime, I want to do so much more.”

The transition keeps him in the CBS family.

“While his show may end in 21 years, I’m happy to report that our relationship is not,” Steve LoCascio, president of CBS Media Ventures, said in a statement.

The company plans to continue offering reruns of the show, which may include new openings, during the season following its last airing.

“We plan to continue our partnership with the library for many years to come and welcome opportunities to work together in the future,” said LoCascio.

McGraw began his career in the entertainment industry as America’s life coach on The Oprah Winfrey Show in the 1990s.
