Parts of California are drying up due to severe storms as more rains are coming soon

Northern California braced for more downpours on Wednesday as the state’s southern and central regions took a break from heavy rains and prepared for another strong system in just a few days.

Flood warnings still affected about 5 million residents in the Golden State on Wednesday, though that’s down from about 30 million on Tuesday.

The heaviest rains on Wednesday are expected in the northern and coastal regions of the state. More than 2 inches is expected to fall on the Santa Rosa wine country and Mendocino community in Ukiah.

It could drop to an inch in San Francisco on Wednesday, but the Bay Area’s biggest threat will come from strong winds of 15 to 30 mph, with some gusts as high as 55 mph.

Heavy rains and strong winds caused a large tree to fall on a city bus. Sutter Street in downtown San Francisco on Monday..

Several key roads Santa Cruz County remained closed on Wednesday.

And rescuers in San Luis Obispo County on Wednesday resumed their search for 5-year-old Kyle Doane, who was swept away by fast-moving water on Monday.

Lindsey’s mother Doane was driving him to daycare on Monday when their car ran into a flooded hole in the road.

“So when I went into the dip, I realized I made a mistake because it was filled from the bottom and my car started to drift and it hit two trees,” Doan told NBC in Los Angeles.

After their car stopped, the mother wanted her child to get out of the driver’s door, and then the water carried him away.

“He came up to me and the current was so strong that when I tried to hold his hand(s) my arm grabbed the tree and then the current pulled him away from me,” the mother said.

“Kyle was drifting down the river and I could see his head bobbing on top of the river.”

Luckier Californians were able to go outside for the first time in days on Wednesday to inspect damage and clean up fallen trees.
