One person killed, another seriously injured in shooting in Vanderburgh County

EVANSVILLE. One person was killed and another injured in a shooting near the Dogtown boat ramp in rural Vanderburgh County late Monday afternoon.

None of the victims have been publicly identified. The incident was reported to the rescue service at 16:43.

Just after 7 p.m., Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson told Courier & Press that a “person of interest” was in custody and being treated for an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. At least two other people were taken to the sheriff’s headquarters for questioning, Robinson said. Robinson previously said law enforcement had located the suspect on the East Side of Evansville.

Robinson said deputies found the deceased man in a house at the 5100 block of Cypress Dale Road in the Union Township Riverbed in southwest Vanderburgh County. According to Robinson, rescuers took another victim to the hospital, who was alive but had received a gunshot wound to the face.

Robinson, who said he knew “limited” information about the circumstances of the shooting, said that as of Monday evening, no other locations were being considered as part of the investigation.

The sheriff’s office will hold a press conference Tuesday at 11:00 am to provide additional information gathered from the investigation, Robinson said.

This is an evolving story and will be updated.
