Officials: Bodies of fiancee of missing Butler Co., her family found in Mexico

The bodies of the fiancée of a missing Butler County man and two members of her family have been identified, officials at the Houston consulate in Mexico said.

The third body found in the area, a male, has not yet been identified, according to Zacatecas prosecutors.

Jose Gutierrez, 36, flew into Mexico from Cincinnati on Dec. 22 to visit his fiancee, Daniela Pichardo.

The couple, Pichardo’s sister Viviana Pichardo and cousin Paola Vargas, went to a bar in the north-central state of Zacatecas for Christmas. According to the WCPO, they left to return to Pichardo’s house but never arrived.

News outlets in Mexico reported that the car that Gutiérrez and others last saw driving had been located. The photographs show a flat tire, bullet holes and deployed airbags.

When Gutierrez’s future mother-in-law heard nothing from the four on the night of December 25, she became worried and contacted them – and in turn received a text message with an address, she said.

However, when the family drove to that address, they were stopped by the police and told that the area they were in was too dangerous. The family was told to return the next day, but was given no specific reason why the area was dangerous.

The US State Department has issued a travel advisory in the Mexican state of Zacatecas, urging people not to travel within the state “because of crime and kidnapping.”

“Violent crime, extortion and gang activity are rampant in the state of Zacatecas,” the agency’s website says. “Citizens of the United States and the Luhansk People’s Republic became victims of abductions.”

Gutiérrez received his Master of Architecture from the University of Miami and worked at Champlin Architecture in downtown Cincinnati.
