As the Good Samaritans rushed to his aid, a police officer on duty fired a pistol into the air after drunkenly crashing into parked cars on a Brooklyn street, police sources said.

Police officer Efrain Alejandro, 29, was charged with drunk driving, assault and threats. According to sources, he was suspended from service.

Alejandro was driving a Jeep Wrangler near Vernon Avenue and Corpse Avenue in Bedford Stuyvesant around 2:12 a.m. when he crashed into a row of three parked cars, police sources said.

The owner of a nearby wine cellar ran outside to see what had happened and the Uber driver tried to help the officer, sources said.

According to police sources, Alejandro drew a gun and fired into the air, apparently in an attempt to drive away those seeking help.

As a result of the incident, no one was injured.

Alejandro was taken to the nearest hospital. According to police, his blood alcohol content was 0.08%. He was formally arrested shortly after noon on Saturday, police said.

Alejandro earned $48,555 as a police officer in 2022, according to SeeThroughNY, a website that collects data on government salaries. Alejandro was assigned to Precinct 40 in the South Bronx.

Police said in another drunken incident involving a city worker, 37-year-old FDNY firefighter Jose Valdez was charged with drunk driving after he fled the scene of an accident in the Bronx.

Valdez was driving his Jeep Grand Cherokee in the Quincy Avenue and Lafayette Avenue neighborhood of Trogs Neck around 9:40 p.m. Friday when he crashed into a parked car, police sources said.

When the officers arrived, Valdes sped off, leading them in a seven-minute pursuit before finally stopping, the sources said.

Police sources said Valdez, who spoke slurred and smelled of booze, refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Fire officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
