Penny S. Waliser of Rebersburg lost her uphill battle with cancer at her home on Sunday, January 15, 2023. She was 57 years old. Penny was born in Altoona on December 18, 1965 and was raised by her beloved grandmother Maxine E. Black, who preceded her in death on November 18, 2015.

Penny graduated from Altoona High School in 1983 and received her bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University. On May 31, 1997, she married the love of her life, Chris D. Welizer, who survived. She worked as an office manager at the former Pearle Vision Center at Benner Pike Walmart. Penny was a very unique woman. In her early years, she was a professional violinist and bodybuilder. A member of the Bald Eagle Shooting League, she could shoot most men and was more comfortable in camouflage than in a nice dress and heels. Penny was an avid hunter and fisherwoman who caught many different animals and snakeheads, her favorite fish. She and Chris enjoyed traveling to different parts of the country on hunting expeditions, where they became lifelong friends. Penny was a hard worker and owned several businesses in her lifetime, including Nature’s Flower Garden and Unique Gift and Flowers. She co-owned Nature’s Garden Landscape with Chris and worked hard alongside him to make the business a success. She later became the office manager of the Mountain High Hunting family business, manufacturer of Buck Cage. When she thought of it, Penny couldn’t do much. She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her husband, Penny is survived by four children: Jesse Amel (Jesse) of Hawk Run, Cliff Waliser (Sarah) of Bellefonte, Jordan Waliser of Altoona, and Lee Ripka (Jimi) of Howard. Fifteen grandchildren also survived, Julian, Jalen, Maverick, Emma, Seth, James, Lily Mae, Ryan, Seth, Taylor, Makayla, Alexis, Cole, Parker, Lena, and a special canine companion, Peaches.

Visiting family and friends will take place on Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 6 pm to 9 pm at Stephen R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. Penny will be buried privately at Union Cemetery in Marklesburg. Donations in memory of Penny can be donated to the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital Fund. Penny’s grandson is studying to be a neurologist at the University of Iowa. Please make a check payable to the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital Fund and mail the envelope to the University of Iowa Development Center, POB 4550, Iowa City, IA 52244-4550.
