NYPD among local, state and federal agencies prepare to indict Trump
A law enforcement source said the New York City Police Department, along with federal, state and local agencies, are preparing for a possible indictment of former President Donald Trump in New York as early as next week.
The NYPD and other law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, are preparing security plans in and around the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse, where Trump could potentially appear if he is charged with ties to an alleged $130,000 hush payment. with Stormy Daniels, the adult movie star, according to the source. Daniels claims the money was paid to keep her quiet about having sexual contact with Trump years ago.
Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal lawyer, pleaded guilty in 2018 to campaign finance charges related to his involvement in the payments and was sentenced to three years in prison.
The alleged scheme first came to light a few years ago, when Trump was still in office. The investigation received a boost in recent months when the Manhattan District Attorney’s office convened a grand jury to hear the case.
A grand jury in New York is hearing the case and may vote to indict Trump.
On Saturday, Trump, who denies the allegations, said in a social media post that he expects to be arrested on Tuesday.
He added that “illegal leaks” from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office indicate that “FAR FURTHER THE LEADING CANDIDATE OF THE REPUBLIC AND FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL BE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY NEXT WEEK.”
Trump also pleaded with his supporters to protest, saying, “THEY ARE KILLING OUR NATION WHILE WE SIT AND WATCH. WE HAVE TO SAVE AMERICA! PROTEST, PROTEST, PROTEST!!!”
The indictment against the former president will be the first in American history as Trump seeks the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential nomination.
