February 10 (UPI) — The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Centers for Environmental Information will update their global climate dataset when the January 2023 Global Climate Report is released on February 14.

New update will be expand according to information available in 2019 data set which is currently in use.

“NOAA’s global temperature datasets consist of data from weather stations across the land, as well as ocean surface data from ships, buoys, surface drifters, profiler buoys, and other unused automated systems,” NOAA said in a press release.

“However, until recently, monitoring of environmental conditions [throughout] The Arctic and Antarctic were more challenging due to fewer temperature observations in those regions,” the press release reads.

The update will include more data from the Arctic region, as well as data based on new scientific methods that will allow observations to be made in areas with limited available climate data.

“The updated version now includes data from more buoys from across the Arctic, as well as improved methods for calculating temperature in the Earth’s polar regions,” the press release says.

In addition, the NOAA center will use the revised historical data to retroactively expand Earth’s temperature data back 30 years to 1850.

“This new version of the NOAA Global Surface Temperature Dataset is part of NCEI’s commitment to providing a complete and comprehensive picture of Earth’s climate,” said NCEI Director Dick Arndt.
