New York mayor says his city has ‘no place’ for migrants

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The mayor of New York visited the Mexican border city of El Paso on Sunday and said there was “no room in New York” for buses of migrants bound for America’s most populous city.

Eric Adams, a Democrat, has also criticized the administration of Democratic President Joe Biden, saying “it’s time for the national government to do its job” over the migrant crisis on America’s southern frontier.

The visit of the mayor of New York to the city on the southern border about the issue of immigrants is unprecedented.

Busloads of migrants were sent north to New York and other cities by Republican-ruled states. This exacerbated New York City’s housing crisis and exacerbated the city’s homeless crisis.

Adams’ trip to El Paso came after he said an influx of migrants to New York City could cost the city up to $2 billion at a time when the city was already facing severe budget shortfalls.

In recent months, the Republican governors of Florida and Texas have sent thousands of migrants seeking U.S. asylum to cities run by Democratic politicians, including New York, Chicago and Washington, DC.
