New York Democrat Joshua Lafazan called George Santos a ‘flight risk’

A Nassau County Democrat who fought for the congressional seat now held by disgraced GOP member George Santos called the lying legislator a “flight risk” and demanded that officials revoke the Republican’s passport.

County MP Joshua Lafazan, 28, called Santos “without exaggeration… the biggest fraud in modern American politics” during a press conference at LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday morning.

Lafazan reminded reporters that Santos, 34, is under investigation at “local, state, federal and international levels” for a variety of alleged crimes, including campaign finance violations and “conspiracy to defraud the United States.”

Santos is also reportedly under investigation in Brazil over allegations that he used stolen checks to buy clothes over a decade ago.

“Any of these charges are enough to put someone behind bars, but collectively we see a serious charge and George Santos faces a serious prison sentence here in the United States,” Lafazan said.

The County MP added that “it is naïve to believe that if an indictment is pending, George Santos will not take emergency measures to flee the country to avoid jail time.”

“People get their passports canceled for a lot less,” Lafazan continued, describing his former rival as “a known flight risk.”

Tracking down all the lies of New York Rep. George Santos

Lafazan, who came in third in the Democratic primary in New York’s 3rd district last year, went so far as to say that Santos might not even be an American citizen given his amazing track record of lying.

Santos admitted to The Post last month that he lied about his education, professional background and religion during the campaign and appeared to fabricate his campaign’s sources of funding and spending.

He resisted calls to resign from both sides of the aisle and was named to two congressional committees on Tuesday.

The constitution prohibits the arrest of members of Congress while traveling to the House of Representatives or on the floor of Congress “except in cases of treason, felony, or disorderly conduct.”

There are no by-laws that would prevent a representative from being charged or extradited.

“We believe,” Lafazan said, “that the indictment of George Santos is not a matter of if, but a matter of time.”
