Michigan Representative Elissa Slotkin is running for a Senate seat in 2024.

Feb. 27 (UPI) — Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Michigan, is currently running for a soon-vacated U.S. Senate seat in that state, she confirmed Monday.

“Today I announce my intention to become the next US Senator from Michigan,” the 46-year-old said. Twitter in a statement related to the video campaign.

“We need a new generation of leaders who think differently, work harder and never forget that we are *civil servants*.”

Senator Debbie Stabenow, Michigan, said last month that she will not seek re-election next year for a fifth term.

Slotkin was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2019, where she serves in Michigan’s 8th congressional district.

“Look, we all know that America is going through something right now. We seem to be going through crisis after crisis,” Slotkin said in a campaign ad on Monday.

“But there are certain things that have to be very simple, like living a middle-class life in a state that invented the middle class.”
