Men arrested in January for assaulting a 71-year-old woman in south Sacramento after she went to a casino

Two men were arrested in connection with the January robbery of an elderly woman who was followed to her south Sacramento home after leaving a casino, authorities said.

Kesin Byron Edwards, 26, was arrested on February 10 in Auckland, where he lives. According to prison logs, 23-year-old Geral Wimberley of Antioch was arrested Feb. 20 in Los Angeles.

On Jan. 3, Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies responded in the Vintage Park area and contacted a 71-year-old woman who said a man entered her garage and punched her in the face as she sat in her car. According to police, the assailant stole her purse.

Detectives reviewing residential surveillance footage saw two people enter the woman’s garage while a third waited in the car, authorities said.

Edwards is being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of robbery and is not eligible for bail. His next trial is set for March 6.

Wimberley is being held at Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail, also on felony charges, with a $100,000 bond. He will be transferred to Sacramento County.

The sheriff’s office said detectives believe Edwards and Wimberley may be responsible for other robberies and are seeking the public’s help in finding additional victims.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the office at 916-874-5115 or the Sacramento Valley Crime Squad at 916-443-HELP (4357).

Residents are being reminded to watch their surroundings and watch out for suspicious people/vehicles, especially when leaving places such as casinos, banks, jewelry stores and retail stores.

Authorities said people should avoid returning home if they believe they are being followed and call 911 whenever they feel they might be in danger.
