Marjorie Taylor Green, who is gaining ground in the Republican-led House of Representatives, is proposing to divide the United States on President’s Day.

  • Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green once opposed a proposal to divide the US into “red” and “blue” states.
  • Green called the idea a “national divorce” for people fed up with the Democrats’ “treacherous” politics in a President’s Day tweet.
  • The GOP MP has made her latest wild statement as she gains more power in Congress.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green is again calling for a “national divorce” that would divide the US into “red” and “blue” states, her latest outrageous remark as a GOP legislator gains more power and influence in Congress.

“From the painful and disgusting problems of the revival culture that are shoved down our throats to the treacherous politics of the Democrats in America, we are done.” — Green. tweeted on President’s Day on Monday.

This isn’t the first time the 48-year-old MP has called for a “national divorce scenario” that would see the country split between Republicans and Democrats.

In December 2021 she tweeted about this idea, suggesting that people moving from blue to red states should be disenfranchised for a while.

Green’s provocative remarks, such as comparing mask mandates to the Holocaust and her previous support for a slew of conspiracy theories such as QAnon, sparked outrage among her colleagues in Congress. House Democrats stripped a Georgia Republican of committee functions in 2021 after it was revealed that she supported the execution of leading Democrats on her personal Facebook page before being elected.

However, Green has recently made a concerted effort to retract some of her most controversial statements, as Insider previously reported. She apologized for her statements in support of QAnon — and at the same time became a staunch supporter of Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy as he aspired to become Speaker of the House.

After McCarthy’s election after a marathon of unsuccessful votes in the House of Representatives, Green was appointed to top committee positions, including serving on the powerful Homeland Security Committee.

“Joe Biden, get ready,” the far-right congresswoman said at the time.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has previously denounced Rep. Green’s stance on specific issues.

“Marjorie Taylor Green’s past comments about school shootings, political violence and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories made and endorsed by Marjorie do not reflect the values or beliefs of the House Republican Conference,” he said in February 2021. “I unequivocally condemn these comments. I have condemned them in the past. I continue to condemn them today.”

McCarthy’s office did not immediately respond when Insider asked for comment on Green’s latest tweet.

And it’s unclear how much control McCarthy has over the far-right politician. Before addressing the US Congress earlier this month, McCarthy vowed that Republicans would not play “childish games” during Biden’s speech.

But Green showed up with a giant white balloon — a nod to an alleged Chinese spy balloon that was drifting over the country — and interrupted the speech, yelling that Biden was a “liar.”

After the speech, Greene told The New York Times that she was not at all worried about being punished for her outburst.

“I have the speaker’s support and he has mine,” she told the newspaper.
