Logitech Unveils Project Ghost Video Conferencing Booth Prototype at ISE 2023
Video chats have become indispensable during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing audio-visual assistance to disparate families and social groups, as well as keeping remote teams connected. But they seem rather flat and low-tech compared to the telepresence cabin concept Logitech unveiled at ISE 2023 this week.
Logitech is in decent shape for online chatting with its quality webcams and conferencing cameras. With Project Ghost, the company is adding another dimension to one-on-one video chats.
The prototype, shown at the Integrated Systems Europe audio/video show in Barcelona, Spain, is a telepresence booth very similar to Google’s 2021 Starline project.
The setup was inspired by the optical illusion known as Pepper’s Ghost and uses a reflective mirror display and hidden camera technology to bring a more authentic personal feel to a virtual conversation with a distant friend, family or colleague – without the need for VR/AR headsets.

The semi-enclosed cabin itself was built in collaboration with furniture manufacturer Steelcase and places the user in a comfortable lounge chair in front of a screen. There is also a side table with tablet control and some greenery for home comfort.
Logitech uses its existing 4K Rally Plus Modular Large Room Video Conferencing System and RoomMate Compute Module that are hidden inside the cab frame so users can focus on natural eye contact with a life-size 3D human image. chatting rather than looking at the camera.
AI-enabled technologies automatically optimize audio, video, and lighting for ease of use, and the system is said to be compatible with GoogleMeet, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom platforms.
Revealed this week at ISE 2023 and heading for a demo in New York later this year, there’s no word at this stage on when (or if) we’ll see a Project Ghost video conferencing booth in an office, mall, or even home. but the Logitech engineers and design team will take the feedback received from the working prototype into consideration to prepare the next iteration.
