Liberal nominee Janet Protasevich advances in Wisconsin Supreme Court race

Milwaukee County Judge Janet Protasevich, the Liberal candidate, is set to enter the April 4 general election in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race after leading the vote on Tuesday, according to The Associated Press.

Protasevich was one of two liberal candidates running for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court that was left open after conservative Judge Patience Roggensack announced she would not run for another term. Protasevich will go head-to-head with a conservative candidate – Jennifer Dorough or Daniel Kelly – for the vacant seat in April.

The race for the State Supreme Court has captured national attention, given that Roggensack’s retirement leaves even 3-3 supporters split on the court, meaning whoever wins the vacant seat will change its ideological makeup. Some of the issues that the new state Supreme Court could consider include abortion rights, re-election districts, and even possible disputes over future election results.
