LGBTQ+ Complex Studio West 117 Opens First Phase With Gala Weekend

For more than 2 ½ years, we’ve been hearing tantalizing stories about Studio West 117, a complex of LGBTQ+-oriented businesses, organizations, entertainment venues, athletic facilities and event spaces, taking over the old Phantasy Nite Club complex and the surrounding area. Now it will host the grand opening of the first phase of its extensive “sustainable ecosystem,” with a series of events this weekend from Friday October 21-Sunday October 23 to celebrate the opening of the Fieldhouse.

The Fieldhouse features a 5,000 square foot gym, three restaurants, a rooftop patio, an outdoor courtyard (which will be a gathering spot and include features such as climbing wall and a winter ice skating rink), a demonstration kitchen and events spaces. It’ll host both adult and youth sports leagues, Stonewall sports leagues, fitness classes for all ages, brunches, art exhibits, drag shows and a variety of special events for all sectors of the LGBTQ+ community.

Events taking place over the weekend include drag shows, with guests from RuPaul’s Drag Race, Dragula and America’s Got Talent, as well as a plethora of the outstanding local drag talent; sports activities in the Fieldhouse gym; classes in the demo kitchen; and the chance to eat from the full menus of all three restaurants: Muze, Trellis and Eat Me Pizza. All are open to any member of the community who is LGBTQ+ friendly and affirming. Go here for a list of events and to get tickets.

The project was conceived and founded by Betsy Figgie and Daniel Budish.

“Studio West 117 was created to honor and share the vibrant cultures that comprise the LGBTQ+ community and to serve and support its members,” says Figgie in the grand opening press release. “We’re excited to welcome everyone to the Fieldhouse for some fun and to learn about everything we have to offer.”

“Everyone should have a place to go where they can feel comfortable in their own skin and can grow and explore,” adds Budish. “We hope the LGBTQ+ community in the Cleveland area and beyond will find that and more at Studio West 117.”
