Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump subpoenaed in Capitol attack case – NYT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Former US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and daughter Ivanka Trump were subpoenaed by Special Counsel Jack Smith to testify before a federal grand jury regarding the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack. It is reported by the New York Times, citing sources.

Last November, Attorney General Merrick Garland assigned Smith to lead two investigations involving Trump, who is running for president in 2024.

The first investigation involves Trump’s handling of highly sensitive classified documents he kept at his Florida resort after he left the White House in January 2021.

The second investigation concerns attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, including a conspiracy to provide fake electoral rolls to prevent Congress from confirming Democrat Joe Biden’s victory.

Earlier this month, media outlets reported that former US Vice President Mike Pence, former National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien and former Trump administration chief Mark Meadows were subpoenaed by Smith as part of his investigation.

In recent months, grand juries in Washington have heard testimony from former senior Trump administration officials in both investigations.

Smith’s office and Kushner did not immediately respond to requests for comment Wednesday. Ivanka Trump could not be contacted for comment.
