Islip Town Begins Renovations at Byron Lake Park

Islip Town announced that it is moving forward with a project to renovate Byron Lake Park. The work includes the pool, concession area, septic system, as well as improving accessibility and surrounding beautification. Byron Lake itself is also being rehabilitated.

Byron Lake Park is a 37.8 acre tree lined park on Bayview Drive in Oakdale, a popular location for picnics and pool parties, the park is also home during the summer to a town-run summer camp.

“We are so excited to finally be moving forward with this long overdue park improvement,” a statement from Islip Town said.

Work on the pool began on October 3rd and lake rehabilitation will begin sometime late fall.

The roof will be completely replaced on the concession building and siding will be added. The footprint will remain relatively the same with other updates and improvements.

The existing pools will be demolished from the ground up and new pools will be installed. The parking lot will remain as is, however, a driveway up to the pool entrance to improve ADA accessibility, and create a drop-off area for patrons will be added. Upgrades to the septic system are being done per Health Department requirements. Plans call for tree trimming and the removal of any dead or dying trees. There is no plan to remove trees that provide a buffer between the park and homes.

The lake project involves rebuilding the existing bulkhead, some reconstruction on the south end of the lake, and reconstructing the culverts for the walkways along the stream.
