House Republican Party demands visitor’s log at Biden’s home after new documents are discovered

January 16 (UPI) — House Republicans on Sunday called on the White House to review the visitor’s log of President Joe Biden’s residence in Wilmington after it emerged this weekend that a new batch of classified documents had been found at his Delaware home.

About 20 documents marked secret from Biden’s time as vice president have been unearthed in an ongoing investigation into the president’s handling of such reports.

On Saturday, the White House said six papers were found in a small office attached to his home’s garage. The discovery was the third time such documents have been found by White House aides and Biden’s lawyers.

Rep. James Comer, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, sent letter On Sunday, White House Chief of Staff Ron Klein requests a log of visits to Biden’s home in Wilmington from January 20, 2021 to the present.

He also called for all documents and communications related to the searches of the Biden home and other locations, saying that the president’s lawyers do not have security clearance.

“The committee demands transparency as to whether any individuals with foreign ties to the Biden family have been granted access to President Biden’s residence and classified documents that he has mishandled for years,” Comer, Kentucky, wrote. in a letter.

“President Biden’s mishandling of classified material raises the question of whether he has endangered our national security. Without a list of individuals who visited the residence, the American people will never know who had access to these highly secret documents.”

The announcement comes as Republicans in the House of Representatives, who gained control of their branch of Congress earlier this month, stepped up pressure on the Biden administration.

On Wednesday, Comer announced his long-promised influence on the investigation into the Biden family, accusing them of using Biden’s position to profit at the expense of the United States.

The Republican-led House Judiciary Committee announced Friday an investigation into Biden’s handling of the documents.

It also comes amid an ongoing criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump’s handling of classified government documents.

Last summer, the FBI raided the former president’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, finding thousands of documents from his time at the White House, including hundreds of classified documents. The raid was carried out after Trump failed to turn them over to the National Archives for a year.

Despite Biden’s legal staff reporting to the Justice Department about the discovery of the documents and their apparent cooperation with the ongoing investigation, Republicans have claimed dishonesty and political bias over the different treatment of the two presidents.

During a CNN Sunday interview State of the UnionComer said his main concern was not with the documents themselves, but with ensuring equal treatment.

“At the end of the day, to be honest with you, it’s not the secret documents that bother me the most. security cameras, photographing documents on the floor, passing through Melania [Trump]closet against Joe Biden.

“This is not equal treatment, and we are very concerned about the lack of confidence in the Justice Department by Republicans in the House of Representatives.”

Comer called Biden’s Delaware residence “a crime scene” and that Republicans in the House of Representatives want to keep a visitor’s log “because this is the same investigation that Democrats have been so outraged, initiated and demanded against President Trump.”

This was stated by Special Advisor to the President Richard Sauber. statement that Biden’s attorneys are monitoring the process and coordinating with the National Archives and the Department of Justice regarding verification of documents.

He confirmed that Biden’s personal attorneys who conducted the search did not have valid security clearances, so if they find a classified document, they stop their activities, do not look at the document in question, and suspend further search for the box, folder, or document. the place where it was found.

Sauber said he had a security clearance and provided newly found documents at Biden’s Delaware home to the Justice Department.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said Thursday he appointed a special board to investigate the discovery of classified documents linked to Biden after a second batch of documents were found in the garage of Biden’s Wellington residence.

The first batch of 10 documents was discovered on November 2 at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington, D.C., prompting a search for additional documents.
