Here’s how a few thousand dollars instead of $20,000 can make your living room better than a Super Bowl stadium.

  • The cheapest Super Bowl tickets cost at least $4,000, with the average price ranging from $7,000 to $10,000.
  • When you add in the cost of airfare, hotel, and food, a trip to the Super Bowl for two can cost upwards of $20,000.
  • For those with a disposable income, the Super Bowl could be a good time to upgrade your home’s entertainment options.

It’s no surprise that attending one of America’s biggest cultural events comes with a hefty price tag, but technology has improved in 2023, which could make watching the Super Bowl at home even better than it really is.

The cheapest big game tickets cost between $4,000 and $5,000, and the average single ticket price is currently between $7,000 and $10,000 on secondary market sites.

Considering a trip to Glendale, Arizona, food, and room rates at a nearby hotel, a Super Bowl trip for two could easily be around $20,000.

The high price resulted in a different, more upscale atmosphere in the game; Cincinnati Bengals star quarterback Joe Barrow said last year’s Super Bowl felt like entertainment at a “dinner party.”

For fans with so much disposable income who haven’t invested enough money to buy tickets, high-quality upgrades can make watching at home more comfortable than any bloody nose seats.

TVs

The latest high-end TVs (at least those not covered in alligator skin and gems) typically cost between $2,000 and $4,000 and can last for years, compared to a one-time visit to the Super Bowl.

Sound systems

A high-end sound system can range from a soundbar to multiple surround sound speakers in a room. As with TVs, prices can vary depending on the quality and quantity of speakers, but some full-featured systems cost just under $2,000.

Furniture

A November Insider report found several TV boxes ranging in price from a few hundred to $12,000.

An August report featured options for dozens of couches to enhance the comfort of your Super Bowl viewing and your living room.

In total, a new TV, sound system, TV stand, and sofa can cost anywhere from a few thousand dollars to $20,000+, which can be spent on a trip to the real Super Bowl. And all this can be bought, delivered and assembled a week before the game.

Snacks

By staying at home, you can cook your favorite Super Bowl snack instead of standing in long lines and paying stadium prices.

At State Farm Stadium, which hosts the Super Bowl this year, one bottle of beer costs $7 and hot dogs cost $4.75 each. According to one study, NFL fans spend an average of $58 per game, typically buying tickets for more than one person.

By comparison, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics says the average pack of hot dogs costs $5.22 a pound. A pack of hot buns costs about $2.50 at Walmart, and a six-pack of Bud Light costs about $8.50, while craft beer can be more expensive, around $10-15 for a six-pack.
