Gavin Newsom fried for leaving California on a ‘personal journey’ during devastating winter storms

Critics are toasting Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom for leaving on a “personal journey” amid devastating winter storms that cover parts of the state in feet of snow.

It’s unclear where Newsom traveled as his office does not comment on such matters due to what they call security concerns, however the governor reportedly left California on Wednesday after visiting the Diablo Canyon power plant in Avila Beach.

“California people are locked in their homes without electricity. New storms are coming. And Gov. Newsom just left the state for a “personal trip,” Rep. Kevin Keely, D-Calif., said Thursday. tweet.

In another tweet, Keely urged Acting Democratic Governor Eleni Kunalakis to “immediately demand a major disaster declaration from the president,” noting that some Californians hit by the hurricanes had no electricity and lacked supplies.

“This may not have been the best time for Newsom to get out of state on a personal trip,” San Francisco Chronicle columnist Emily Hoeven tweeted Friday, referring to an article about Californians stuck with no food or a way to dig out of the snow.

It is not clear why Newsom decided to leave the state amid the ongoing storm situation, as well as the declaration of a state of emergency in 13 counties of the state, including Los Angeles, on Wednesday due to storms.

This isn’t the first time Newsom has come under fire for his out-of-state travel. He was criticized last year for vacationing in Montana, despite it being one of 22 states where he banned publicly funded travel due to controversy over LGBT-related laws.

Fox News Digital reached out to Newsom’s office for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
