Fox News is trying to silence one of its more than $1.6 billion libel suits

Fox News on Monday sought a restraining order against one of its own senior producers to prevent it from publicly disclosing information related to a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit it is fighting over lies it has broadcast since the presidential campaign. elections in 2020.

Abby Grossberg, senior producer in charge of guest bookings for star Tucker Carlson, told Fox last month that she intends to sue the network for discrimination and retaliation, according to Fox’s lawsuit.

Fox claims he was forced to sue her to prevent his legal tricks from being exposed.

“Ms. Grossberg threatened to disclose confidential information to FOX News Media between an attorney and a client, and we have filed a temporary restraining order to protect our rights,” the network said in a statement.

The judge has yet to rule on Fox’s request.

In a statement to The Daily Beast’s Confider, Grossberg’s lawyer wrote: “Having just received and read Fox News’ flippant attempt to silence Abby Grossberg, we are delighted that the full story of her case will now be heard in three separate courts in each of which we are confident she will get justice.” that she deserves, and certainly the fair treatment she has yet to experience from her Fox News employer.”

Her law firm shared a draft of her civil lawsuit with the network, which cited “pages of allegations allegedly summarizing and citing communications that the defendant had with Fox News attorneys,” according to Fox News legal briefs.

Fox says these statements are confidential to an “unrelated” lawsuit filed in March 2021. It was then that election technology company Dominion Voting Systems sued Fox News for publishing unsubstantiated claims that the company helped rig the presidential election for Joe Biden. A trial in the case is scheduled for next month.

The producer is a key witness to how unsubstantiated claims were made on Fox air.

In November 2020, Grossberg hosted fellow Fox star Maria Bartiromo’s The Weekend Show. According to evidence released in the Dominion v. Fox lawsuit, at one point Bartiromo shared a memo sent to her by lawyer Sidney Powell, who made false allegations of election fraud by then-President Donald Trump.

In the memo, Powell presented detailed allegations of fraud without providing evidence. It was written by a woman named Marlene Bourne, who admitted that her statements were “quite nonsense.”

However, Bartiromo, who has reinforced and even embraced Trump’s post-election conspiracy theories, has hosted Powell on her show several times. In these speeches, Powell argued that the election was not on the upswing and promised to release the evidence in due course. She never finished the job.

On September 14, 2022, Grossberg told Dominion’s attorneys under oath that such a memorandum should not have been used as the basis for any such segments.

“That’s not what I would use as a broadcast message right now, no, it’s not,” Grossberg said in his testimony.

In its lawsuit against Grossberg, Fox’s legal team said it informed her lawyer that the information included in her draft complaint against the network was confidential earlier this month. But on Monday, Fox said Grossberg’s law firm shared draft lawsuits that would include the material.

Fox is demanding that the court permanently ban Grossberg from sharing this information.
