Four policemen shot and killed a man with a gun in the Bronx after he attacked a woman: NYPD

Four officers shot and killed a man with a gun after he assaulted a stranger in the Bronx on Sunday afternoon, police said.

The man’s 63-year-old victim approached officers around 2:20 p.m. and told them she had just hit her near East 153rd Street and the Grand Concourse, authorities said. The man was followed by five police officers, according to police.

“He’s refusing their order to stop,” NYPD Patrol Chief John Chell said at a news conference Sunday near the scene. “How [the officers] keep following him, he shows a firearm and points it at a passerby.

Chell said officers gave “repeated instructions to drop firearms.

“He had a gun in his right hand, he quickly turned to them, they unloaded their firearms,” the senior policeman said.

Four policemen opened fire on the man, who was “shot many times in the body,” Chell said.

Between 30 and 35 shell casings were found at the scene, according to a police source.

The man, whose identity was not immediately released, was taken to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition. None of the police officers fired.

The woman was “hit by a man,” Chell said. The extent of her injuries was unknown.

Firearms were seized at the scene, police said.

The officers were taken to a Colombian hospital for treatment for tinnitus, police said.

Chell asked anyone who saw what happened to call 1-800-577-TIPS.

The shooting came a day after an off-duty police officer was shot and killed while trying to buy a car that was listed on social media. He struggled to survive Sunday.
