Former Indianapolis Colts star accused of punching son and strangling son’s boyfriend

Former Indianapolis Colts linesman Joseph “Joe” Stisniak was arrested Tuesday after a domestic incident in which he was accused of assaulting his son and strangling his son’s boyfriend, court documents show.

The 56-year-old retired football star and 6-foot-5 radio host was sent to jail at 1:43 a.m. Tuesday on charges of strangulation and battery. He was released on bail the same day, according to Hendrix County Jail records.

The Hendrix County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of “protracted domestic” riots at Stisniak’s home in Brownsburg just before midnight Monday.

According to an affidavit, Staisniak’s son told authorities that a neighbor saw him sitting in a car in front of the house with his boyfriend.

Then Joe Stisniak came over, opened the rear passenger door and “grabbed [the boyfriend’s] hood and strangled him,” the affidavit says.

The son told deputies that his father “then punched him, causing his lip to bleed, and then punched him.” [the boyfriend]”. The officer who spoke to the son noticed dried blood and cuts on his lower lip, the affidavit says.

The son said that his father demonstrated the firearm and told him and the boyfriend that “they were lucky that he saw who it was,” the affidavit says.

The guy in the car said that Joe Stisniak “shone the gun” and “at some point during the incident held it to his face,” the affidavit says.

Sticeniak told the sheriff’s office that a neighbor called him saying that there was a suspicious car parked in their yard, and he went to investigate. When he approached, he saw who was inside and told the guy he could never return to his property, the affidavit says.

Steisniak denied hitting the boyfriend and said his son “came for him” and the father pushed the son back with an “open hand” and the son bled from his mouth, according to the sworn statement. He said that he and his son “got into it” and that “he tried to attack him,” the document says.

According to the affidavit, Staisniak said that at that moment he had to physically restrain his son, and his wife had to separate them.

Steisniak reported that “he had a gun with him”, but “he denied having touched [the boyfriend] with him or directing him to any person, ”the document says.

According to an affidavit, he was found guilty of intimidation with a deadly weapon, strangulation, domestic battery and battery.

Ultimately, Stijsniak was charged with strangulation and two counts of bodily harm in a Hendrix County court.

He appeared via video link at Tuesday’s preliminary hearing, where the court pleaded not guilty to the charges. As part of his pre-trial release, he was ordered not to have contact with his son and boyfriend.

A preliminary meeting was scheduled for April 10, and a jury trial for April 25.

He was placed under enhanced pre-trial supervision and released on bail.

Attorney Guy A. Relford, representing Joe Stisniak, stressed that the charges filed in Hendrix County do not include domestic battery or violations of firearms regulations. According to the affidavit, these firearms were eventually seized by deputies.

“The situation arose when a neighbor contacted Joe at a late hour to report two suspicious cars parked in the woods near Stysniak’s house, and Joe went to investigate. He found his adult son and friend in one of the cars,” Relford said. “The details of what happened then will become known in the courtroom, but we are fully confident that Joe’s actions will be finally recognized as legal and justified under the law. circumstances.”
