First Republic Bank and SVB made the same mistaken bet. They Pay Now.

One of the many mysteries surrounding the recent banking crisis is that two institutions stranded, Silicon Valley Bank and Bank of the First Republicare located in the San Francisco Bay Area – the former are based in Santa Clara in the southern part of Silicon Valley, and the latter are based in the city itself, about 47 miles to the north.

While there may not be direct links between the two banks—and, to be clear, at the time of this writing, the Silicon Valley bank has failed and First Republic (ticker: FRC) has not—there are some intriguing similarities, and in the end is perhaps an imperfect common denominator when it comes to understanding and managing your customers.
