FBI Director Christopher Wray: COVID-19 Pandemic ‘Probably’ Started with Information Leaked from Wuhan Lab

March 1 (UPI) — FBI Director Christopher Wray said the agency believes the COVID-19 pandemic likely began with a leak from a lab in Wuhan, China.

Ray said in Fox News interview On Tuesday, the broadcast said the Chinese government continues to obstruct international investigators interested in investigating the theory of a potential leak from the lab, which raises suspicions.

“The FBI has long believed that the cause of the pandemic is most likely a potential Wuhan lab incident,” Ray said. “Here you are talking about a potential leak from a laboratory controlled by the Chinese government.”

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning called the comments “a political manipulation of tracing origins.”

“China always supports and participates in the science-based global tracing of the origin of SARS-CoV-2,” Mao said. during a press conference on Wednesday. “Trace of lineage is a complex issue of science. This research should and can only be carried out jointly by scientists from all over the world.

“Laboratory origin of the pandemic was considered highly unlikely” is a scientifically based authoritative conclusion reached by experts [World Health Organization]-Chinese Joint Mission.

Ray’s comments follow a classified US Department of Energy report that also concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic was likely caused by a leak from a lab in China.

The report’s findings were of “low certainty” but they came after other US agencies suggested that the SARS-CoV-2 virus had accidentally escaped from a lab in Wuhan where the first cases were reported.

In 2021, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in a report that four other intelligence agencies determined with low confidence that the initial COVID-19 infection “was most likely due to natural contact with an animal” infected with the virus, most likely a bit.
