Eric Adams’ Brother Resigns as Mayor’s Security Adviser

Eric Adams’ younger brother, Bernard Adams, is stepping down as the mayor’s head of security after a tenure that initially raised concerns about nepotism.

City Hall confirmed to The Post on Friday that Bernard Adams’ last day of work with his older brother will be sometime next week.

IN interview with PIX11 NewsBernard Adams said he plans to spend more time with his wife, children and grandchildren in New York after retiring.

“Working with the mayor is a round-the-clock job,” he told the news outlet on Friday.

Mayor Adams’ selection of his younger brother for the role last year made headlines and raised ethical questions, leading the city’s conflicts of interest board to order Bernard Adams to only receive compensation of $1 a year for a concert that would otherwise pay 210 000 dollars a year.

Mayor Adams justified his brother’s hiring by saying, “Personal safety, my life, my life, I want in my brother’s arms.”

“I didn’t listen to the noise,” Bernard Adams, 57, said Friday of the controversy surrounding his hiring.

The retired NYPD sergeant was still earning $51,665 a year from his police pension, records obtained by The Post show.

Before taking a job as a security coordinator at Hizzoner, the younger Adams last worked as an assistant parking director at Virginia Commonwealth University, according to his LinkedIn page.

Originally promoted to the position of Deputy Police Commissioner in charge of public affairs following his brother’s 2021 election victory, the Conflicts of Interest Board investigation led to a reduction in the advisory role, where Adams said he was “picking everyone” on the mayor’s security team.

“When it comes to protecting my life, I trust no one more than my little brother,” Mayor Adams told The Post in a statement Friday night.

“All New Yorkers should thank Bernie for his service to this city, but personally, I thank him not only for joining our team, but also for being one of my strongest stones after my mom died. . Last year, he showed me how important little brothers can be.”
