EPA to hold March meeting of Salisbury residents

PHILADELPHIA (March 15, 2023) — United States Environmental Protection Agency will hold a community meeting for the people of Salisbury, Maryland to share information about the health risks associated with the chemical, ethylene oxide or EtO. A public meeting will be held at the Lower East Coast Maryland Council of Three Districts in Salisbury on March 23 at 6:00 pm. located at 201 Kiley Drive in Salisbury..

In the coming weeks, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) plans to propose regulation of air pollution to protect public health by eliminating EtO emissions from commercial sterilizers. The EPA shares data and information on EtO emissions with the public for feedback. The agency seeks to improve public understanding of risk; help states, tribes, communities, and industry mitigate EtO risk in the near term; and hear opinions as the agency continues to develop regulations to reduce air pollution from commercial sterilizers.

The Environmental Protection Agency will be joined by federal and state environmental and health officials to respond to public questions, comments, and concerns, including Maryland Department of the Environment staff will discuss the work they are doing in partnership with Trinity Sterile to reduce emissions and risks.
